Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya a Central University established
by Central University act 2009 of the Parliament was originally established as state University
by an act of State Legislative Assembly of the then undivided Madhya Pradesh on
June 16 1983. Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is an active member of the association
of Indian Universities and association of Commonwealth University. The National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the University as B+.
Situated in a socially and economically challenged area,
the vishwavidyalaya is appropriately named to honour the great satnami Saint Guru
Ghasidas(born in 17th century), who championed the cause of the downtrodden and
waged a relentless against all forms of social evils and injustice
prevailing in the society.
The lush green sprawling campus of the Vishwavidyalaya
spread over an area of 655 acres is located five Km away from the Bilaspur main
town. River Arpa, the lifeline of Bilaspur runs parallel to the University campus.
Bilaspur is a fast Industrializing city, already having a large number of industrial
units coming up in the region.
